According to a news report, a man gave the Harvard University Law School $13 million. He did not do it because his education helped him become successful in business. He said he did it because he met his future wife at Harvard. He was grateful because the school was a matchmaker. We read in 2 Samuel 22 that King David was grateful to God — grateful that God helped him to be victorious in all his battles. Here is how David expressed his gratitude: “Who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock? God is my strong fortress and he makes my way perfect.” Now notice the specific ways God helped David] He says, “God makes me surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. You have given me your shield of victory; your help has made me great.” David was grateful to God for the many ways God helped him to succeed. God gave him wisdom to choose what battle to fight. God gave him protection and strength as he fought. Notice, He did not sit on the sidelines and expect God to fight the battles for him. God seldom acts while we do nothing. Victory comes when we ask God to guide us to do the right thing, and then trust Him to help us as we proceed to do it.
