Years ago in Japan a farmer burned up his entire rice crop. He did it to save his village. From his house on a hilltop, he saw a tsunami coming, but people living along the shore could not see it. So he set fire to his stacked crop of rice to warn them. When the people saw his rice burning, they rushed uphill to help extinguish the fire. In so doing, they escaped the tsunami. The man sacrificed his entire fortune to save 400 people, and my, were they grateful. David was grateful for all God had done for him. He expressed this in 2 Samuel 22. He said, “The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock! May God, the Rock of my salvation be exalted! He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he brings down the nations under me and delivers me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies. You save me from violent opponents. For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever.” God waits for us to express gratitude to Him for all He has done for us. God says in Psalm 50:23, “Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.” Giving God thanks positions us to receive more blessings; especially when we thank Him for Jesus who suffered in our place on the cross of Calvary.
