The Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless ministry began in 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia. Pastor Hosea Williams started the work because he had a passion to help destitute people. Today they serve 160,000 children in three states, Africa, and the Philippines. For them, following the Christ includes not only preaching and teaching the Good News about Him. It includes helping the less fortunate as Jesus did. We read in Matthew’s Gospel that while Jesus was here on earth, He engaged in preaching, teaching, and healing–a threefold ministry. Make no mistake; these activities authenticated his identity as the God’s Son. At the same time, Jesus did those things because He loved people and was concerned about their total welfare. We read this in Matthews 9:35, “Jesus traveled throughout all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. He healed every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” As followers of Christ, we are diligent in communicating the Gospel; we also seek to show people that we care about their total needs.
