Summer camps are gearing up to accommodate young people. Camps provide an array of activities that build character in youth. They provide food, fellowship, and fun in a safe environment. An ideal camp might symbolize what life will be like in our eternal home. We learn from Revelation 7 that in John’s vision, he saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every tribe, people, and language. They were standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They wore white robes and held palm branches–symbols of victory. They were shouting with a great roar, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb.” They ascribe their victory to God and to the Lamb who is the Christ. This crowd of saints fell before the throne and worshiped God. They sang this praise to God: “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever!” John tells us that the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will give them shelter, will protect them from the heat of the sun, and will lead them to springs of life-giving water. God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. No more tears for sin, suffering, or death. Jesus Christ the Shepherd will protect and provide for His people forever in that holy environment. That is why we aim to serve Him faithfully. We know that our work for Him is not in vain.
