The Voyager 1 spacecraft has passed Jupiter and Saturn—it is more than 10 billion miles from the Earth and on its way to the outer edges of our solar system and beyond. Yet it sends messages back to earth with a 16-watt battery, smaller than a TV battery. Like the power of this tiny battery, our little faith can reach the heart of God. Jesus said so. He said if our faith is as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains. That is because the power is not in the size of the faith but in the power of God, the One to whom we direct our faith. Jesus made this dramatic statement at the foot of a mountain where He had just delivered a little boy from demon possession. Jesus scolded his disciples for their inability to cast out the demon. He said it was their lack of faith. He asked them, “How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Many Bible scholars believe the disciples were unable to cast out the demon because they were depending on their own power, rather than on God—a fatal mistake. Our answers to prayer—large or small—come most often when we ask God to do what He has promised to do in His word. Since God may answer yes, no, or yes but not now, people of faith learn to pray and wait until God chooses to answer.
