Three of the deadliest pandemics were the Bubonic Plague, the Spanish Flu, and the AIDS virus. Plagues like these have left millions of people dead. Yet the deadliest disease ever is still raging. It began when we humans rejected God our Creator, sending us spiraling away from God. The Bible teaches that our rejection of God at creation has had the most negative effect upon our society than any other single event. Worse than any virus, sin disrupts our relationship with God, with people, with self, and even with the material creation. It was so consequential that only God could provide the antidote to curb its effects. In Romans 5, the Apostle Paul explains God’s cure this way: “Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.” God provided a cure for our human pandemic by sending His Son Jesus. It Is up to us to accept Him as our Savior and King, to obey His teaching, to spread His message of love and forgiveness, and to fight wrongdoing and injustice everywhere.
