John Templeton founded his investment company in the 1930s. He started with a simple strategy: Buy stock of good companies that other investors hated. He paid $1 each for 104 stocks that other investors rejected. That wise strategy paid off. Today the Templeton Company has assets in the billions. Wisdom is the ability to navigate life by making and executing sound decisions. The Bible assures us true wisdom stands the test of time and comes from reverencing God. To some people, God’s wisdom appears to be simplistic or illogical, yet it always proves to be perfect. Here are some examples of wisdom from the book of Proverbs chapter 16: “Better to live humbly with the poor than to share plunder with the proud. Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the LORD will be joyful. The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive. Discretion is a life-giving fountain to those who possess it, but discipline is wasted on fools. From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive. Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” These biblical proverbs have stood the test of time. Besides, they are God-breathed, God-given, and God-inspired by the Holy Spirit.
