Dr. Bruce Perry says violence increases when we become desensitized to death or killing. He says “children watch 200,000 acts of violence on TV by the age of 18. Violence increases when we become detached and separated from each other. He urges that we connect with others, especially those who feel left out. He says violence increases when we let hateful beliefs such as racism and anti-Semitism flourish. We should treat others with respect even if we do not agree with them. Violence increases when people are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We should stay away from such things. Violence increases from the easy access to handguns. Many youth and adults die accidentally because of easy access to guns. Jesus was very clear about His attitude toward life. Not only did He heal people to relieve suffering and death; He wept in sympathy at the death of His friend Lazarus. He also wept because He was outraged by the way death destroys life that God envisioned for humanity. It is also why He volunteered to die on the cross. He died to destroy death by paying its penalty and rising again. Having conquered death by His resurrection, He now offers to give eternal life to all who repent of their sins and accept Him as their Savior and Lord.
