A 25-year-old man learned he had terminal cancer. A friend asked him, “What did you do when you realized you were about to die?” He said, “It’s real simple. You get things right with God; you spend as much time with those you love as you can; and you settle up with everybody else.” Then he said, “Actually, we ought to live every day like that.” That young man was wise. We have learned that wisdom is the application of knowledge, and obedience is the application of wisdom. Each of us has to find our way through life–from birth until we leave this earth. To do it successfully, we need wisdom. So where do we get it? True wisdom comes only from God who created us. Long ago, Job said, “The fear of the LORD is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.” Obtaining wisdom requires obedience to God; but since we cannot obey God perfectly, God sent His Son to give us wisdom. According to Paul in 1 Cor. 1, through faith in Him, Jesus Christ gives us not only wisdom, but also righteousness, holiness, and redemption. We have it all in a relationship with God through Christ. Once we accept Jesus into our lives, we submit to Him in reverence. We ask Him to guide us through all the perplexities of life. And true to his word, He does it.
