History records that 2.5 million people died in the Cambodian genocide, 3 million died in the Nigerian holocaust, 17 million in Germany’s holocaust, 100 million under communism, and untold millions as Europe conquered and colonized the West. As horrible as these death crusades were, according to the Apostle Peter, none of them compares to putting to death Jesus Christ the Son of God. Peter argues that the death of Jesus outranks and outclasses all deaths because as God’s Holy Son sent to redeem humanity, He was the Author of life. He was God’s Righteous Prophet who came to bring God’s eternal truth to the earth. All humanity participated in rejecting and crucifying Him-even though we were not all living on earth at the time of His death. This truth emerges as Peter spoke to the crowd after he and John healed the crippled man recorded in Acts CH. 3. Peter said, “You killed the author of life,” meaning the righteous Son of God whose death paid for the sins of all humanity. The good news is that Jesus Christ arose from the dead. Today He offers forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who accept Him as their Savior.
