In 1960, God gave a young man named Loren Cunningham the vision, “Youth With a Mission.” Today, they train and send out annually 25,000 volunteers to 180 countries to serve the needy. Young King Josiah of ancient Israel was only 16 when he began to seek the Lord. His goal was to revive his people to serve God and make a difference in their nation. We read in 2 Chronicles Chapter 34 that he gave orders to renovate the Temple, the place of worship. While doing it, the workers found the lost book of the law that Moses had written. They took it to the king. When Josiah heard the court secretary read the Law, he tore his clothes in despair. Then he gave orders to his officials: “Go to the Temple and speak to the LORD for me and for all the remnant of Israel and Judah. Inquire about the words written in the scroll. For the LORD’S great anger has been poured out on us because our ancestors have not done everything this scroll says we must do.” Notice, the king did not excuse his people’s sins but admitted their failures and took action to restore their relationship with God. God honored Josiah’s humility and reforms, and blessed the country. This young man’s actions show that youth, if they choose to do so, can have a profound impact in our world today.
