Many a doctor has said to a patient, “If you don’t watch your weight and exercise, one day you will suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, or diabetes.” It is a forewarning we are wise to observe. The Apostle Peter gave a forewarning to believers in his day, one that applies today. He wrote 2 Peter to alert his readers that false teachers were trying to lead them astray from the Christian faith. He urged them to be aware, and he gave them counsel on how to resist their influence. He said while you are waiting for God’s plans to unfold, make every effort to live “peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight. Remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.” Peter urged them to keep growing in the grace God has bestowed on us. Keep growing in experiential knowledge of God. Experiential knowledge is what we learn, not just from what teachers impart to us, but knowledge that comes from experience, from our daily walk with the Lord. Peter ends his letter by celebrating the majesty and glory of Jesus. He says, “All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.” Like Peter, we should maintain a fervent desire to please and glorify Jesus Christ. After all, He has provided for us a total and mind-boggling salvation.
