Robert Goddard was the pioneer of modern space travel. But when he first proposed the possibility of space travel back in the early 20th century, people made fun of him. Cynics often ridicule what they cannot conceive. That happened to Paul as he defended himself before Festus and Agrippa. Paul gave a brilliant narration of how he met Jesus on the road to Damascus; how Jesus changed his life and what followed. Here are Paul’s words in Acts 26: “King Agrippa, I obeyed that vision from heaven. I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God — and prove that they have changed by the good things they do. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen — that the Messiah would suffer and be the first to rise from the dead, and in this way announce God’s light to Jews and Gentiles alike.” Suddenly, Festus shouted, “Paul, you are insane. Too much study has made you crazy!” Paul’s message convicted Festus, so he cut him off by mocking him. People often ridicule what they refuse to accept. Yet historical facts underlie the Christian faith. Jesus Christ lived in a human body, died for our sins, and arose again. All who turn from sin and place their faith in Him gain eternal life.
