World War II ended in 1945 after nearly 60 million people had lost their lives, including 6 million Jews. As the Allied Nations led by the U. S. and Great Britain surrounded Germany, Adolph Hitler committed suicide. This victory over Germany and Japan led to huge celebrations all across the globe. A vicious enemy had been defeated. Psalm 48 tells about another victory celebration. The psalmist wrote, “The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city. But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.” The psalmist is describing how God intervened to deliver a nation from defeat. But this deliverance and the Allied conquest will pale in comparison to the coming victory when Jesus Christ returns to take charge of the earth. The Bible teaches that one day every knee will bow to Him and every tongue will confess that He is Lord of all. Though we do not know when, we know the Messiah will come with His powerful angels. He will set up his throne here on earth and rule until He defeats all the forces of evil and establishes justice. Now that will be a cause of celebration!
