Among the steps people can take to become American citizens are the following: be born here, serve in the military, pass a citizenship test, know certain things about the constitution, have no felony conviction, be of sound mind, and pay a fee. Our country has good reasons for all of these requirements to become a citizen. But what does God require so He will accept us as members of His kingdom? Here is how the Apostle Paul answered this question, found in Romans 3. “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. God declares people to be Not Guilty when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. God did this to demonstrate His righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.” Everyone needs to know this truth. When we commit ourselves to Jesus Christ, we escape eternal damnation and receive eternal life.
