Churchill said pessimists see difficulty in every opportunity; optimists see opportunity in every difficulty. God gave Joseph wisdom to see opportunity in Pharaoh’s dream. He dreamed of 7 healthy cows and 7 heads of healthy grain. In Genesis 41, we learn how Joseph explained the dreams to Pharaoh: He said the next seven years would be a period of great prosperity throughout the land of Egypt. But afterward, there will be seven years of famine — so great that all the prosperity will be forgotten. Famine will destroy the land. This famine will be so severe that even the memory of the good years will disappear. To prepare for it, Pharaoh should appoint a wise man to be in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Pharaoh should appoint supervisors over the land; and let them collect one fifth of the all the crops during the seven good years. They should gather food produced in the good years and bring it to Pharaoh’s storehouses. Store it away, and guard it so there will be food in the cities. Otherwise, Joseph said, this famine will destroy the land. God gave Joseph wisdom to save Egypt as well as the surrounding nations. Just as God gifted Joseph, God gives us abilities. He gives them to us so we can benefit others as we exercise them.
