A recent survey revealed that 25% of people did not like their boss. When asked why, one reason cited was that bosses take credit for ideas that came from employees. Some bosses don’t give credit where credit is due. You will recall that Joseph was not that kind of person. He was in prison, down in Egypt, for a crime he did not commit. While in prison, he explained the butler’s dream that Pharaoh would clear him of suspicion and give him back his job. The dream came true, but the butler forgot all about Joseph until Pharaoh had a mysterious dream. It was then that the butler remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh. He quickly sent for Joseph. When he came in, Pharaoh said to him, “I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.” Notice how Joseph responds to Pharaoh. He said, “It is beyond my power to do this,” but God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.” So Pharaoh related his dreams and Joseph explained the meaning. Joseph was quick to ascribe his abilities to God. Like this young man, we should give credit to others who deserve it. But most importantly, we should give credit to God for what He does for us. When we do, we honor God and benefit ourselves.
