Sam Walton, founder of Wal-mart, said this about passion: “I think I overcame every one of my personal shortcomings by the sheer passion I brought to my work.” Walton said, “I don’t know if you’re born with this kind of passion, or if you learn it. But I do know that you need it.” Walton’s passion drove him to build the largest retail chain in history. The Apostle Paul was another person with passion. In his early years, he tried to stamp out Christianity, but once he met Jesus, he set out to plant the Gospel all over the Roman Empire. Power and prestige did not impress him; but his passion for Christ and for people drove him to spread the Good News about Jesus. That is why he was furious at the false teachers. They tried to undermine the message he preached in Galatia. In chapter 1 of his letter, he told them, “Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even and angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you.” Later in chapter 3, he wrote, “Oh my dear children! I feel as if I am going through labor pains for you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives.” We need more people with the right kind of passion-the burning desire to see others come to know Jesus Christ.
