John Kennedy once said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live them.” Kennedy was right. Living out gratitude is what God wanted from ancient Israel. He had delivered them from slavery and sustained them 40 years in a rugged wilderness. Here are Moses words from Deuteronomy 7, “The LORD did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations! Rather, it was simply that the LORD loves you, and he was keeping the oath he had sworn to your ancestors. That is why the LORD rescued you with such a strong hand from your slavery and from the oppressive hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.” God wanted his people to show their gratitude by loving Him and obeying His word. God still expects that kind of response from His children. He is constantly blessing us, even though HE often permits difficulties as well. Even so, we should not only express our gratitude to God verbally, we should express it by the way we live.
