Warren Buffett said he would give a billion dollars to anyone who picked all 63 winners in the NCAA basketball tournament. Of course, nobody did it. But God promised King David 1,000 years before it happened that he would have a Son to rule the world. We read in 2 Samuel 7:16 that God said to King David, “Your house and your kingdom will continue for all time before me, and your throne will be secure forever.” Then 1,000 years later, his descendant Jesus the Messiah was born. And in keeping with the prophet Micah’s prediction, Christ was born in the obscure town of Bethlehem—King David’s hometown. Though Mary and Joseph were living in Nazareth, 70 miles north of Bethlehem, God used the decree of a Roman Caesar to call for a census. Caesar Augustus ordered that everyone must register in his birthplace. This brought a very pregnant Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, the place where Christ was born. God’s sovereign power made the impossible possible. God arranged for His Son to be born into the world at just the right time. In a similar way, God can arrange our circumstances to unfold according to His purpose and plan. He invites us to trust in Him with all our hearts; to not depend on our own flawed wisdom, but to seek His will in all we do, and He will show us the best path to take.
