A father saw a bee dart into his car as he drove along. His little girl was in the back seat trying desperately to duck. She was so allergic she could die from a bee sting. The man quickly stopped the car, trapped the bee with his hand, and painfully let it sting his fist. He let it go and again the little girl panicked, but the father said, “Honey, it can’t hurt you now. Look at my swollen hand. I took the sting out. Hebrews 2:14-18 tells us that Jesus took the sting out of death for us who have accepted Him. Yes, our spirit leaves the body, as it does for everybody at the end of life. But for those with faith in Christ, death is a doorway into eternal life. The writer says, “Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying, could he break the power of the devil that had the power over death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.” So fear of death is gone for those united to God by faith in His Son. Paul also said when a fellow believer dies, “we do not grieve like people who have no hope” because when Jesus returns, Christians who have died will rise from their graves to meet the Lord in the air and live with Him forever. That is our future because Jesus took the sting out of death for us.
