The Seven Wonders of the ancient world include the Great Giza Pyramid in Egypt, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. These all testify to the creativity of people in the ancient world. Yet none of these can ever compare to our God’s genius in fashioning the world, nor His amazing deeds since then. The psalmists repeatedly remind us of God’s presence and interventions in human affairs. One example is Psalm 105. There we read, “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.  Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord.” “Remember the wonders he has performed.” The psalmist celebrates God’s creative genius, his miracles, His revealed truth, His reliability in sustaining all He created and keeping all the promises He has made. We can be glad the world is under His control. Despite seeing things that go wrong, we can be hopeful knowing God has plans for this planet. He will fulfil them in His own time. Our task is to recognize His right to rule, to surrender to His authority, and serve as His agents for making a difference where we live.
