People who serve in the Peace Corp volunteer to make a difference wherever they go. They are asked to live and work among needy people to share their skills, often undergo hardships to make a difference among people all over the world. More than 235,000 Americans have accepted this challenge and volunteered to serve. When our Lord came to earth, He chose to live among us to make a difference. He told Mary and Joseph at age 12 he must be about His Father’s business. At age 30, he submitted to John’s baptism, indicating He was ready to complete the mission God the Father had sent him to carry out. We read in Matthew chapter 3, “After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.’” When we volunteer ourselves to do the will of God, God is pleased and gives us His affirmation. Then as we yield to His Spirit He empowers us to fulfill His purpose. And in carrying out God’s purpose for us, we become filled with joy and satisfaction.
