Children who grew up in the early 40s became glued to the radio and TV when they heard the words, “It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman!” Clark Kent, the newspaper reporter suddenly changed into Superman to rescue someone in mortal danger. But Superman’s dual identity can’t compare to the dual identity of our Lord as he lived on earth. We know Jesus was God and human for several reasons. One day he took three of his disciples to the top of a mountain. We read in Luke Ch 9 that “as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.” Jesus’ face and clothing suddenly became brilliant like the sun—a supernatural event to show his disciples and us that Jesus was more than human. He is divine, God in human form, so we have no doubt about his identity as God’s Prophet, Priest, and King. We also have testimonies of three disciples that heard God the Father speak to say “This is my Son, my chosen One. Listen to him.” Add to this the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and who can challenge His identity as God in human form. That’s why we love Him, serve Him, and give Him our loyal devotion.
