Here are things some people fear could destroy our earth: aliens, a comet, a burst of sun energy; an uncontrolled disease, nuclear war, or a super volcano eruption. While the possibility of such events may cause some people to be fearful, God gives His people a reason to be confident. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans Chapter 8, “All creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subject to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.” Our relationship with God based on our faith in Jesus Christ gives us reasons not to fear the future, or even to lose confidence in the midst of difficulties. The apostle goes on to say that since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, as joint heirs with Christ we are destined to inherit all of God’s glory. Until then, as we trust his love, wisdom, and power for us, our faith assures us that no matter what may happen to the earth, God has our backs—both now as well as in the eternal future.
