The modern wonder of social media allows fundraisers to solicit millions in donations, protest groups to gather quickly, and politicians to win elections. The power of words is amazing. In a far greater way, God’s Word is even more powerful. God often uses His written Word to motivate people to do His work in the world. As we tune our hearts to listen to God’s Word, His Spirit in us ignites our faith to respond to God’s call. On the one hand we exercise faith in what God has written in His word. On the other hand, God empowers His Word in us. That is why we can read of people whose faith accomplished so many great things for God, such as those we read about in Hebrews Chapter 11, “By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. So if we want to fulfill God’s purpose for us in the world, we should remain in fellowship with God by studying and meditating upon HIs word.
