A schoolteacher lost her entire investment in a crooked business scheme. When all her money disappeared, she went to the Better Business Bureau. The official asked her, “Why did you not come to us first? Didn’t you know that is why we exist? “Oh yes,” the lady said sadly,” I knew about you, but I didn’t come because I was afraid you would tell me not to do it.” The folly of human nature is that even though we know where to find right answers — the Bible — we don’t go to it for fear of what it will tell us. The author of Psalm 119 did not make that mistake. He knew the value of God’s word. He prayed, “LORD, give me your unfailing love, the salvation that you promised me. Then I can answer those who taunt me, for I trust in your word. Do not snatch your word of truth from me, for your regulations are my only hope. I will keep on obeying your instructions forever and ever. I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments. How I delight in your commands! How I love them! I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your decrees.” Often in our fast-paced world, we devote little time to read God’s Word, the Bible. But when we are too busy to meditate on God’s love letter to us, we are too busy.
