According to consumer reports, the fraud business is booming. Fraud and scam complaints are at record highs. Experts say scams require a good story that sounds like the truth but is in fact a lie–like “We’ll reduce your heating bill, your credit-card interest rate, your health-care cost. Or “Grandma, I’m stuck on vacation and need you to wire me some money.” If you have ever been the victim of any of these scams, you long for the day when they will end. The writer of Psalm 104 was keenly aware of evil but kept his thoughts and hopes focused on Almighty God. We read this: “The LORD takes pleasure in all he has made! The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch. Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the LORD.” Now even though we do not know when God will rid the earth of evil, we know He has promised to do so. He judges some evil now, but one day His Son Jesus Christ will return will to earth to subdue the kingdoms of the world and rid the earth of scams and all evil. Until then, we serve as salt and light to reduce evil even as we invite others to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord, and King.
