Most of us have played Telephone, the game where you whisper a message to the person next to you; they whisper it to the next and so on. When the last person gets the message, it’s often far different from the original one. It shows the value of faithfully conveying a message. That’s what Paul stressed in referring to the Gospel message. In 1 Corinthians 15, he says, “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” Paul stressed that the message he preached was based on the Holy Scriptures—which all agreed were God-given and reliable. Those Scriptures had said the Messiah would die—proof of death is that He was buried. Paul then said many eyewitnesses testified they saw him alive after He was buried—proof that He arose. Paul knew that without Christ’s resurrection, faith in Him would be futile, hope of eternal glory would be a myth, and the power to live as God desires would be nonexistent. The heart of the Gospel is that God became human in Christ, died to pay our sin debt, now lives to guarantee our future glory. Today, He provides power to navigate life. That is a message we must faithfully transmit–from one person to another and from one generation to the next.
