People all over the world want to live in America for two main reasons: 1) We choose our leaders by vote, and 2) we are governed by a set of laws—a constitution—not by one dictator. While the structure has flaws, it appeals to people worldwide. A system that honors God and His moral values can expect His blessings. Long ago, God chose to be Israel’s God. King David wanted to build a temple to symbolize God’s right to rule over his nation. God rejected David’s plan but let his son build the Temple. Solomon gathered the entire nation to celebrate Yahweh as their God. We read in 2 Chronicles chapter 5 that Solomon “summoned to Jerusalem the elders of Israel and all the . . . leaders of the ancestral families. They were to bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant to the Temple from its location in the City of David.” With the Ark of the Lord in their midst, the entire nation came together to worship and affirm Yahweh as their God. America is not a theocracy—ruled by divine authority as ancient Israel was. Still, if we truly love and honor God, love and seek justice for all, we can expect his blessings upon our country.
