One church in Chicago is using small groups to promote reconciliation in their community. Leaders say by working to reconcile all ethnic groups, promoting mental health justice, and the care of God’s creation, they’re making a big impact on the entire neighborhood. They started with one small group; it soon grew to engage people from many of the 60 different nations represented in the community. This church’s strategy will also make a global impact as these various ethnic groups go back and forth to their nations of origin. This could be another way to do missionary work. The Bible assures us that when our Lord returns, He will eliminate violence and injustice and bring peace to our world. The prophet Isaiah pointed to this peaceful future when he wrote in chapter 11, “In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together … the cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra. Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm. Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, for as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the LORD.” Until then, God calls His people to seek reconciliation with one another, to spread His Word, and to promote justice and righteousness.
