Native Americans say the United States created but broke 370 treaties with them–treaties that left them poor and powerless. How different are the covenants God makes. For example, God promised 600 years before He did it to establish a New Covenant to benefit all humanity. He promised to do it because under the old covenant, the people failed to keep their vows. Rather than abandon humanity, God promised to establish a New Covenant. Under it, God would live inside of those who believe and accept His chosen deliverer. Then 600 years after making that promise, God showed up in Jesus the Christ. Jesus became our substitute to pay our sin debt and that allowed us to go free. In Jeremiah CH. 31, we read this: “This is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the LORD. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. “I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” The value of any covenant depends on the faithfulness of the Covenant maker. God promised; God delivered. We benefit. Let us be grateful to God and strive to keep our word as God does.
