According to the Pew Research Center, 76% of Americans believe that all people will stand before God at the Judgment Day to answer for their sins.” It is nice to know most Americans believe they will give account to God, yet many live as though they do not care. Sadly, even some professing Christians believe their faith in Christ gives them license to live as they please. Yet the Bible is clear that while our salvation is not probation–it is a free gift, still we will give account for the things we do in our bodies. God’s word to ancient Israel gives us a clue to how God views our actions today. God said through Malachi, “At that time I will put you on trial. I am eager to witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” These charges were directed to a nation that had abandoned the moral principles that God had revealed. But they apply to individuals who are guilty. We praise God for His grace that saves us on the merits of His Son. Still, God expects His people to practice and promote values that reflect His character.
