An older friend of mine gave me a piece of advice. He said, once you have children, you will always be a parent– until you die. That is because even after they become adults, they still come to you for advice and sometimes money. He was right. Children are gifts from God, but when we regard our role as God’s stewards in raising them, we sense a duty to raise them properly for God. That was Hannah’s attitude. For a long time, she was childless and endured taunts because she was barren. She prayed and God enabled her to have a child. She was so grateful that she gave her child back to the Lord. She composed a song of praise recorded in 1 Samuel ch 2. In it, she praised God for making her strong in the face of taunts for her childlessness. She had left her case in the hands of God Almighty, and now God had rewarded her faithfulness. She could say, “Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. She said, “No one is holy like the LORD. There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” God is the unfailing source of security for his people. Hannah had strong faith in God. She left justice to God instead of retaliating. She urges others to stop acting with pride or speaking with arrogance. Like Hannah urged, we can afford to leave justice in God’s hands because God knows our hearts. He knows what we have done. He will judge our actions.
