In a survey conducted a few years ago, the most admired people in American history included Ronald Reagan; Abraham Lincoln; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; George Washington; Billy Graham; and Oprah Winfrey. Each of these is admired for some unique contribution to American society. Yet none of these begins to compare to the admiration and reverence we owe God Almighty–for all He is and has done for us. King David was so full of reverence for God he wanted all humanity to join him in praise. We read in 1 Chronicles Ch 16, “O nations of the world, recognize the LORD; recognize that the LORD is glorious and strong. Give to the LORD the glory he deserves!” “Worship the LORD in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him.” “Let the heavens be glad, and the earth rejoice! Tell all the nations, The LORD reigns!” “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” King David wanted the entire world to recognize and praise God because He is worthy to be worshiped and obeyed–worthy because He created and sustains the entire universe; because He forgives to all who accept His Son, and because He will return to judge and rule the world in the future.
