Historic world leaders like Alexander the Great, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are notable for conquering, teaching, leading or influencing society. Such people are often called “great.” Yet none of them rises to the greatness of Jesus the Christ. When God’s angel visited Mary to announce that God would use her to introduce His Son into the world, here is how the angel described Him, found in Luke Ch 1, “He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his kingdom will never end!” Many powerful people have existed since time began. Yet none can match the power and influence of God’s Son Jesus Christ. Not only did He appear once to reveal Himself as the way, the truth, and the life, but by His death He paid humanity’s sin debt so all who believe in Him can live forever. He arose and went to heaven. One day He will come again, claim His own, and establish justice in our world.
