Paul Jones wrote the Gospel song, “I Won’t Complain.” One stanza says, “Sometimes the clouds hang low; I can hardly see the road. I ask the question, ‘Lord, Why so much pain?” But He knows what’s best for me although my weary eyes can’t see. So I’ll just say thank you Lord. I won’t complain.” Ancient Israel did not have that attitude and they paid dearly for complaining. According to Numbers Ch 21, God helped them defeat Arad, but told them to go around Edom, because that land belonged to Esau. Taking this roundabout way provoked the people so much that they blasphemed God, rejected Moses as their leader, and despised their food, calling the manna, miserable. God was so irked with their complaints that He let snakes attack them, causing many to suffer and die. God judged them because they rejected the wisdom of His plan. Finally, they came to their senses and repented. God then told Moses to fashion a bronze snake and place it high on a pole. God healed all who looked up by faith. Jesus said later, “As Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.” So instead of complaining when your clouds hang low, look up to Jesus by faith. He can heal your sin-sick soul and lift your clouds of hopelessness.

clarification. paul jones did not write “I won’t complain”. this song was actually written in 1974 by rev. don johnson from tennesse, an ALJC pastor. the correct title to the song ia actually “I can’t complain”, but has been changed over time. very few words have been changed to rev. johnson’s song for the version, ” I won’t complain”. please go to you tube to view rev. don johnson himself singing this beautiful original song, “I can’t complain.” thanks.
