Habitat for Humanity builds homes for poor people.

The initial idea behind Habitat for Humanity goes back to 1942; but it was in 1968 that they began building homes for the poor. Since then, they’ve built over 800,000 homes worldwide. Their inspiration for building low-cost housing reflects the teaching of Jesus. His heart went out for those in need. One example of this is Mark Chapter 10. Jesus is making his final journey to Jerusalem where He knows He will die by crucifixion for all humanity. He knows this, yet he takes time to help a poor blind beggar. Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was nearby, so he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’” “Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, ‘Tell him to come here.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up,” they said. ‘Come on, He’s calling you!” Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabbi, the blind man said, “I want to see!” Jesus said to him, ‘Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly he could see and followed Jesus down the road. Helping the hurting both physically and spiritually was Jesus’ passion. As followers of Jesus, we can do no less.
