Dr. George Washington Carver was a scientist, botanist, educator, and inventor. He taught Southern farmers how to rotate their crops, and he also created many products from peanuts and sweet potatoes. He also stressed these values: be clean on the inside and out; don’t look up to the rich or down on the poor; win without bragging; lose without complaining; always respect women, children, and older people; be to brave to lie and too generous to cheat. When understood properly, faith in Christ can promote racial harmony. Dr. Carver’s character and expertise earned him respect from leaders all over the world. Long ago, Daniel and his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were exiles in Babylon. Though captives in a strange land, they kept their integrity and worked for the good of the city, just as God through Jeremiah said they should. As a result of their faithfulness to God, we read in Daniel 1:17 that God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” God honored the faithfulness of these young men, and God is pleased today when we acknowledge and honor Him in all the things that we do.
