STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It’s an educational program designed to prepare students to work in various technological fields. Most jobs now require workers with these specific skills. Preparing people for specific work is similar to what the ancient king of Babylon did when he selected Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. These young men were exiles in Babylon because their nation had violated their covenant with God King Nebuchadnezzar chose them for special assignments in his government. He changed their names, assigned them a special diet, and put them through a special educational program. But these young men did not want to violate their values even in this strange land where few people would notice or care what they did. So they chose to trust God to help them live with integrity. God’s people today oftentimes live and work in a society that may not be friendly to biblical values. But faithful followers of Christ depend upon God to help them navigate with integrity-to do what honors God and shows love and justice toward others.
