George Mueller is known as a man of great prayer and faith. Growing up, he often mocked Christians, but after God saved him he dedicated his life to housing, clothing, and feeding poor children. As he walked the streets and saw homeless, hungry children, he asked God to supply a building, furniture, food, and people to help run it. God met the needs day by day. Sometimes the food arrived just in time for the meal. Oddly, he never asked donors to give. He just prayed and waited for God to supply the needs and God never disappointed. Over the years the orphanage fed more than 10,000 children—one day at a time. Living by faith is what God sought to teach ancient Israel. When they left Egypt, God supplied food from the sky for 40 years. When the first manna arrived, Moses said, “Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.” By following these instructions everyone had just enough. By giving them manna on a daily basis God was teaching the people to live by faith. Today, God uses various ways to teach His children to live by faith. But it usually comes down to our asking, seeking, knocking, working, and always trusting in Him.
