Many followers of Christ feel compelled to help spread the Good News about Jesus. That’s because before He left the earth, Jesus gave the church its marching orders. We read in Matthew Chapter 28, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” We sometimes minimize one aspect of our Lord’s Great commission. We correctly emphasize our duty to invite people to become Christ’s disciples; but we often fail to stress His commission that we teach disciples to obey ALL that Jesus taught. His ALL includes our duty to accept and love everybody as He did. It includes modeling and teaching His Kingdom values like love, mercy, justice, peace, forgiveness, the sanctity of marriage, money, and a whole lot more. When we fail to model ALL of His values and fail to stress their importance to new believers, we create professing Christians who misrepresent who Jesus Christ really is.
