5Dr. Charles Drew was the pioneer in banking blood. This African American researched and created a plan to bank blood until needed. As a result, countless lives all over the world have been saved. He faced many obstacles on the way to achieve this feat. The Red Cross chose him to head their New York blood bank, but when they adopted a policy to segregate blood by race, he resigned knowing this policy was ridiculous and insulting. He left to become chief surgeon at Freedman’s Hospital at Howard University. Until this day, Dr. Drew is known as the Father of the Blood Bank. But when it comes to celebrating the Father of all Truth, that designation can only go to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In speaking to His disciples about the reliability of teaching that comes from earthly teachers, Jesus in Matthew CH. 23 said, “Do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.” Today, we can learn from careful scholars in any discipline. But when it comes to ultimate truth we regard the Scriptures and our Lord Jesus Christ as the source of untainted truth.
