When President Obama spoke before the National Prayer Breakfast, he said, “The presidency has a funny way of making a person feel the need to pray.” He said, while he was working as a community organizer, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He told the audience he now prays every morning that God give help him focus on social justice, humility, and a closer walk with God. Like many U.S. presidents before him, President Obama values prayer. The ancient ruler of Israel, King David, was a man of prayer. In 1 Chronicles, Chapter 29, we read: “David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly: ‘O LORD, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!” Prayer with humility is a confession of our need for God. And when we come humbly to God in the name of His Son, God promises us His mercy and blessing.
