Actor Denzel Washington grew up in the Church Of God In Christ. He is the son of a COGIC pastor. He once said to a church gathering, “It’s impossible to be grateful and hateful at the same time. A bad attitude is like a flat tire. Until you change it, you are not going anywhere.” He stressed the importance of saying thanks to others for the things they do for us, but especially saying thanks to God for what He does for us. Gratitude pleases God, and when we are sufficiently grateful, we’ll want to do what gives Him pleasure. God sent His only Son to rescue us from eternal death. Since His Son died in our place, our gratitude should drive us to please Him who has done so much for us. Not only did Jesus willingly suffer for us on the Cross, today He is the believer’s constant companion, cheering and empowering us in so many ways. Gratitude should draw us to say “Thank you” to others for the kindness they show to us, and say to God, “Since You have given us so many blessings and promises, in gratitude, I will do my best to honor You and help fulfill your kingdom agenda in the world. Lord, I will aim to live a life of love, kindness, and fairness.”
