Scientists now have machines that can translate one language into another. They are not 100% accurate but they are gradually getting better. It will be a great day when we can speak English and it automatically translates into languages around the world. Yet that is what happened on the day of Pentecost 2,000 years ago. After Jesus arose from the dead and before He left the earth, he promised that He would send the Holy Spirit to indwell His people. He said the Holy Spirit would empower them to testify about Him. We read this in Acts Chapter 2: “On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” It is highly unlikely that we will see a repeat of this Pentecostal event. But we can use our native language and deliver the Good News about Jesus all around the world—using personal conversation, the printed page, radio and TV, as well as the internet with all of the modern digital technology.
