Every four years, Americans vote for a leader they think will make America better. Sometimes we choose right; sometimes we are disappointed. That is because we are not perfect in our ability to select, and because the ones we do select seldom can deliver all that they promise. In contrast to leaders that we choose, God has chosen a leader that will fulfill all God’s purposes for the world. God predicted his coming long ago through the Prophet Isaiah. Matthew quotes Isaiah’s words and says they apply to Jesus Christ. Here is what Matthew quoted God as saying about the Messiah (Matt. 12): “Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not fight, or shout, or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally, he will cause justice to be victorious. And his name will be the hope of all the world.” Of course, Jesus Christ is not physically in the world today; but we trust the accuracy of the Bible that says one day Jesus Christ will return to the earth. Until then, we His followers seek to love and obey Him. We are certainly not perfect, but we seek to live as He asked us, with integrity and honesty. We share the message about God’s love and forgiveness; and we strive to foster justice and righteousness in the world today.
