An adoption agency decides if a home is safe for an adoptive child. So they have strict requirements adoptive parents must meet: They must be at least 21 years old, in good physical, mental, and emotional health; must have no child abuse history; the home must be safe and secure; and parents must be able to care for children. The Bible teaches us that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, God adopts us into His family. As adopted children we have certain benefits. God’s Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us to teach and strengthen us to do God’s will. His presence in us today is a down payment of a coming benefit we will get when Jesus Christ returns. At His coming, we will receive new eternal bodies that can never die. We read in Romans Ch 8 that “what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” Today, this hope of our coming adoption spurs us to remain faithful to Jesus and to engage in God’s Kingdom agenda of sharing the Good News, loving one another, and working for justice in our world.
