The story is told of a man who wanted to break a deep sea diving record. He dived but was never heard from again. Experts say a swimmer too deep in water can lose all sense of direction. They surmise this is what happened to this swimmer. The story illustrates our human condition without God. We can get so far from God that we lose all sense of right and wrong. This explains why our world is so filled with violence and inhumane treatment toward one another. God alone has the solution to fix our problem—if we would only accept it. The Bible reveals that after declaring all people sinners and powerless to do right, God himself gave us the solution. God gave His own Son to die and pay our sin debt, then gave us His Spirit to help us live right. It’s a mystery how one person’s death can pay for the sins of the entire human race, but since God is God, He has the right to do it. We can become right with God by faith in God’s Son. God’s plan is so wise, so loving, and lasts so long—eternally–it boggles the human mind. It is so precious that it’s well worth giving God our life, our soul, our all.
