Here are some expressions we often hear today about truth: What you believe is true for you; what I believe is true for me. Truth is subjective. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Different strokes for different folks. You have your beliefs: I have mine, and that should be the end of the discussion. Such expressions tend to say truth is relative or subjective. Yet while certain earthly truths may be relative, when God speaks He gives us absolute truth. We may not understand all God says, but we believe that since He is the God of truth, we can rely on everything He says. King David spoke about God’s unchangeable truth as he set up a place for worship and a throne for judging ancient Israel. At his installation we read this in 1 Chronicles Ch 16, “Remember [God’s] covenant forever,” the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.” God made a promise to Abraham that He fulfilled in part by David nearly a thousand years later. Today, after four thousand years, God is still keeping the promise he made to Abraham as He blesses people through David’s descendant, the Jesus Christ. Yes, some truth may be relative, but every truth God speaks is absolutely reliable.
